Workshop systems thinking
Duration: Half-day For: Leaders, managers

About this workshop

Many persistent organizational problems keep recurring despite the best intentions to drive change. Deadlines are missed, collaboration feels strained, and decision-making slows down. Often, the cause is sought in specific individuals or isolated incidents. Systems Thinking helps us look differently: focusing on patterns, structures, and underlying dynamics instead of just reacting to events.

In this half-day training, you will be introduced to systems thinking as a framework for better understanding recurring patterns and organizational behavior. You will learn how systems shape behavior and why well-intentioned solutions sometimes keep the problem alive. This gets to the heart of systems thinking: addressing the structure that produces the result, rather than just treating the symptom.

Wat je leert

  • What a system is and how elements, relationships, and goals collectively influence behavior and results.

  • The difference between

    event

    -based thinking (incident-focused) and

    systems

    thinking (holistic or pattern-driven).

  • How recurring organizational issues stem from feedback loops rather than individual errors.

  • Recognizing reinforcing and balancing feedback loops.

  • The gap between “what we say” (stated goals) and “what the system rewards” (implicit goals).

  • Why small interventions in structure and patterns often have a greater impact than fighting symptoms.

Werkwijze

This training is highly interactive. We work with recognizable situations from your own organizational context and translate them into systemic patterns and dynamics.

Participants bring in a recurring pattern (such as issues with collaboration, decision-making, or workload) and learn to analyze it through variables, feedback loops, and underlying assumptions. In small groups, patterns are mapped, discussed, and translated into potential leverage interventions: small, realistic changes that can shift the system.

This approach provides more than just insight; it fosters a systemic lens through which to view teams, leadership, and organizational challenges.
